1. Why was Kezia afraid of her father?

Ans: Because her father once punished her and hit her with a ruler in her little palm.

2. Who were the people in Kezia’s family?

Ans: Kezia’s family consisted of her father, her mother, her grandmother, and herself. 

3. What was Kezia’s father’s routine?

Ans: Kezia’s father had a routine that included:

(i) Leaving early for work, and her father comes into her room to gave her a goodbye kiss.

(ii) Relaxing on the sofa, and order for tea to be brought in the drawing room.

(iii) Spending time with the family on Sundays.

4. In what ways did Kezia’s grandmother encourage her to get to know her father better?

Ans: Kezia’s grandmother always tells her to understand her parents in a better way. She often encourages the little girl to chat with her parents in the drawing room.

1. Kezia’s efforts to please her father resulted in displeasing him very much. How did this happen?

Ans: Her grandmother advised Kezia that she should make a pin cushion as a gift for her father’s birthday that was coming the following week. Kezia stitched three sides of the cushion laboriously and kept one side open to stuff the case with something. She finds some papers in the room. She tore the paper and stuff in the pin cushion. Those papers were actually her father’s great speech for the Port Authority. Her father was angry with her, and he didn’t even listen to why she tore the sheets of paper. He simply punished her; he hit her with a ruler on her little, pink palms.

2. Kezia decides that there are “different kinds of fathers.” What kind of father was Mr. Macdonald, and how was he different from Kezia’s father?

Ans: One evening she saw Mr. McDonalds, playing with her 5 children, laughing and enjoying with them. This event influenced Kezia that all fathers are not similar. She  some fathers are caring and loving like Mr. McDonald and some are harsh like her father.

3. How does Kezia begin to see her father as a human being who needs her sympathy?

Ans: Kezia’s mother needs to be hospitalized and her grandmother goes with her. So, Kezia was alone in the house with the cook.  In the middle of the night, she woke up in fear screaming and weeping as she had a terrible nightmare. When Kezia opened her eyes she saw her father right next to her. Her father carried her to his bedroom and made her comfortable and warm on his bed. She spent a good time with her father.After that, she realized that her father was not a bad person. Kezia begin to see her father as a human being who needs her sympathy.
