(a) Work of a river in the upper course.

Ans: In the upper course the river flows from steep slopes with high speed. Erosion is very high and the river bed becomes deep. The river forms ‘U’ shaped valleys and canyons in this course.

(b) Work of a river in the middle course.

Ans: In the middle course the slope becomes gentle and the speed of the river decreases. Lateral erosion becomes more important. The river flows in a zig-zag or meandering path and deposits sediments on the banks.

(c) Work of a river in the lower course.

Ans: In the lower course the river flows very slowly. Deposition is more than erosion. Flood plains, sand bars, braided channels and delta are formed in this course.
