Ans: Governance is the process of making decisions, organising social life by various rules and ensuring compliance with these rules.

(c) What is ‘Government’?

Ans: The system which makes the rules and ensures that they are followed is called a Government.

2. What form of local government is there in the area you live and what work does it perform?

Ans: In rural areas the form of local government is Village Panchayat and in urban areas it is Municipality or Municipal Corporation. It works for local development such as sanitation, water supply, roads, street lights and public welfare.

Ans: The three main organs of government are:

(i) Legislature.

(ii) Executive.

(iii) Judiciary.

(b) How does the three organs of a government function in harmony with one another?

Ans: The Legislature makes laws, the Executive implements the laws and the Judiciary interprets the laws and ensures that they are properly implemented. In this way the three organs of the government function separately but in harmony with each other.
