1. Answer the following questions:

(a) What is diversity?

Ans: Each of these groups has its own faith, traditions, customs, festivals, and celebrations. These differences among people can be termed as diversity.

(b) What is unity?

Ans: Unity signifies living together while preserving individual identity without diminishing the existence of others.

(c) What do you understand by unity in diversity?

Ans: Just as the flowers in a garden coexist harmoniously, in the same way when people from different backgrounds set aside their differences and live together, it creates unity in diversity.

2. Mention the factors contributing to India’s diversity.

Ans: The essence of Indian society lies in its unity in diversity. While the concept of diversity is incredibly beautiful, it can be somewhat complex to understand. Therefore, we will try to understand it through various aspects of India’s social system.

The factors contributing to India’s diversity are:

(i) Geographical Diversity.

(ii) Ethnic Diversity.

(iii) Religious Diversity. and 

(iv) Linguistic Diversity.

3. Give the examples of India’s geographical diversity.

Ans: To the north, there are the towering Himalayan mountain ranges, while to the south, there is the vast ocean. In the east, there is the place with the highest rainfall in the world, and to the west, a large desert. With mountains, coastal regions, plains, rainfall, and deserts, India’s geographical environment is highly diverse.

Ans: Students should collect pictures of different types of houses in India such as bamboo houses of Assam, mud houses of villages, houseboats of Kashmir, and modern buildings of cities, and prepare a scrapbook.

5. Besides 26th January (Republic Day) and 15th August (Independence Day), what are the other events that we observe pan India on same dates. Prepare a list as shown in the next page. For example: 5th June is shown in the table.
