THINKING ABOUT THE POEM

Q.1.1. What kind of place is Innisfree? Think about: – ইনিসফ্রী কী ধরনের স্থান? সেই বিষয়ে ভাবো:

Ans. Innisfree is a beautiful place where nature is in its full Swing.

(i) the three things the poet wants to do when he goes back there (stanzaI): – তিনটি জিনিস কবি চান যখন তিনি সেখানে যেতে চান।

Ans. The poet wants to build a small cabin of clay and  wattles. He will have a nine bean-rows and a hive for the honeybees.

(ii) what he hears and sees there and its effects on him (stanza I): – তিনি ‌কী দেখতে ও শুনতে চান যা তাঁর ওপর প্রভাব ফেলে।

Ans. He hears peace come dropping and the cricket sing. He sees the midnight shine and a purple glow at noon. Evenings are full of linnet s wings. He feels happy and gets peace of mind.

(iii) what he hears in his “heart’s core” even when he is far away from Innisfree (stanza III): – তিনি মনের মধ্যে কী শুনতে পান যখন তিনি ইনিসফ্রী থেকে দূরে থাকেন।

Ans. The poet hears the lake water lapping the shore with low sounds.

2. By now you may have concluded that Innisfree is a simple, natural place, full of beauty and peace. How does the poet contrast it with where he now stands? (Read stanza III.) – এখন তোমরা বুঝতে পেরেছ যে ইনিসফ্রী একটি সাধারণ, প্রাকৃতিক জায়গা, যেখানে অনেক সৌন্দর্য ও শান্তি আছে । কবি এর সঙ্গে এখন যেখানে দাঁড়িয়ে আছেন তার কীভাবে তুলনা করতে চান?

Ans. The natura! beauty of Innisfree is used and explained in Contrast with the roads and pavements. The pavement is of grey Colour which symbolises decay and death.

3. Do you think Innisfree is only a place, or a state of mind? Does the poet actually miss the place of his boyhood days? – তুমি কি মনে কর ইনিসফ্রী কেবল একটি জায়গা, অথবা মনের একটি অবস্থা? কবি সত্যিই কি তাঁর বাল্যাবস্থার দিনগুলির অভাব বোধ করেন?

Ans. The natural beauty of Innisfree is not the creation of the poet’s faney. It is a real place that gives solace to the frustrated Souls. The poet longs to live at such a beautiful and peaceful place. He misses it a lot.

Q.II. 1. Look at the words the poet uses to describe what he sees and hears at Innisfree – শব্দগুচ্ছের দিকে তাকাও যেগুলি কবি ইনিসফ্রীতে দেখা ও শোনায় ব্যবহার করেছেন।

(i) bee-loud glade – অরণ্য মধ্যস্থ ফাঁকা জায়গায় মৌমাছির আওয়াজ।

Ans. (i) These words create the picture of the hive and honeybee humming all around. It is in the glade.

(ii) evenings full of the linnet’s wings – সন্ধ্যায় লিনেট পাখির ডানার আওয়াজ।

Ans. Linnet is a bird with wings. When it flutters its wings, it looks beautiful. And when the bird sits in a tree amidst beautiful natural scene, it leaves an indelible impression on the minds of the beholder.

(iii) lake water lapping with low sounds. – হ্রদের জলের কিনারায় পড়ার ধীর আওয়াজ।

Ans. It is an ordinary but bewitching scene. The waves strike the lake’s shore to create a pleasing and soothing sound.
