Ans. This poem looks like a descriptive poem. But it has a deep hidden meaning also. Man has certain duties and obligations towards society and mankind. He must give more importance to them (duties and obligations) than to his personal comforts and likings. He must sacrifice his (personal) “self” for the greater good of the greater number of people. There may be things and moments to a attract (অ্যাট্রাক্ট) him and to allure (অ্যালিউর) him towards personal comforts. If a man falls under their charm, he would deviate (ডেভিয়েট =বিপদগামী হবে) from his course. He must pursue (fH^T) the greater goal (his duties and obligations to society) and brush aside all other things and considerations. These are the ideas underlying this poem. So, I think that the more important think in this poem is not the description but the ideas explained above. It is a reflective poem also.

Ans. The poem should be read in its wider background. The traveller stands for Man and the journey is the journey of human civilisation. The traveller’s carriage is weak and the horse is small. But with his strong determination he hopes to go miles and miles to keep his promises. If he does not go ahead, he would be falling in his duty. Man also has some duties and obligations to perform. For this he must give up all personal comforts and likings. So the poet has done the right thing by going ahead without stopping in the woods. Rest and respite prevent a man from doing his duties properly.
